Conservation, Sustainability, and Carbon Neutrality
Our mission is to leave behind a better planet than the one we found.
Voygr Expeditions is a social enterprise. Conservation is our first priority.
Being an exceptional tour operator allows us to do this.
Carbon Negative
Voygr calculates the carbon footprint for every itinerary. Vehicles used, hotels stayed in, heating fuel consumed, food eaten, waste generated, flights flown, and more. Carbon is offset by planting thousands of Korean pine, a critical keystone tree species, in Siberian tiger and Amur leopard habitat in the Russian Taiga through the High Asia Habitat Fund.
Conservation is First Priority
Voygr isn’t just a tour company. Many of our team are active conservationists, national park rangers, and authorities on endangered species like the snow leopard, Siberian tiger, and Tibetan wolf. We commit over 20% of our annual profits to conservation. Additionally, for every guest that comes on a snow leopard tour with us, we contribute $350 to the High Asia Habitat Fund.
Sustainable & Fair Livelihoods
We exist to leverage the power of travel for social good. We exist to empower communities and ecosystems in remote Asia. Voygr cuts out middlemen who don’t add value to travel and generate more revenue for communities that actually host tourists. Except for specialist leaders, ALL our crews are local from the communities our guests travel to.
Dear Explorer,
Thanks for taking the time to look at our journeys and imagine yourself on an expedition to remote Asia.
Adventures come in all shapes and sizes. Voygr helps you find ones that push your limits, broaden your cultural orbit, and discover wild wonders. For us, it is critical that we provide these experiences built around protecting the environment and preserving vanishing cultures.
I founded Voygr almost a decade ago after years of experiencing adventure travel around the world. I grew tired of seeing middlemen take huge cuts of what I paid simply for providing connections. I wanted to see the many excellent guides that I encountered at the center of my travel. With a background in international development and sustainable business, I decided to have a go at making the system fairer for the communities involved and for the environment.
Our guides are what sets Voygr apart. They are historians, photographers, and mountaineers. They are local, and they love showing off their unique communities. They value the unique areas where they work and are committed to, and trained in, cultural preservation and environmental sustainability.
- Cultural Preservation: In our travels to remote communities, Voygr endeavors to not just observe, but to engage communities. Our guides know the locals, our guests hear their stories and learn about their lives. We engage and document these communities, returning many times over to develop strong relationships.
- Environmental Sustainability: Our expeditions cover many fragile ecosystems in some of the highest regions of the world. Voygr follows Leave No Trace principles wherever we go.
- We provide our ranger teams, our remote infrastructure, and our expedition crews to build predator proof corrals, run community training programs, engage regions that have active human-wildlife conflict, and provide trainings to field teams from wildlife reserves across Central Asia.
- We revere wildlife through the use of trained guides and a respect for the animals’ habitat.
We aren’t just carbon neutral. We are proud to be CARBON NEGATIVE. After calculating a tours carbon emissions, we offset another 10 tonnes of carbon on top.
As lovers of the mountains, Voygr also recognizes the intersectionality of both cultural preservation and environmental sustainability. The people and the planet are intertwined. Wherever possible, we involve local communities in our work by promoting sustainable building practices, supporting national park systems, and developing livelihoods that are fair.
We look forward to sharing this with you.
